FROM GREECE

ANEK LINES was founded in April 1967 under the name “Anonymous Naval Company of Crete”. Its foundation was based on the need for good ferry connection between Crete and Athens/ mainland Greece. The seat of the company is in Chania.
The first vessel of the company was KYDON, which started its itineraries in September 1970 serving the line Piraeus-Chania. Since then, the development of the company has been quick and impressive. Today, it owns 11 ships certified by International Safety and Quality Systems.
In fact, in December 2008, in the framework of the 5th Greek Shipping Awards organized by Lloyd’s List, ANEK was awarded the prize of the “Best Company for the Year 2008 for Passenger Shipping”.

This joint service aims to optimise the capacity offered in the Ancona-Igoumenitsa-Patras route, so as to better reflect the current demand of the route, offering up to 3 daily departures, while maintaining the high level of services.

The deployment of the new and modern ferry Olympic Champion in the Piraeus – Heraklion route upgrades significantly the offered services. The Olympic Champion operates daily to and from Heraklion in cooperation with the technologically advanced SUPERFAST XII enabling in this way the implementation of 4 departures per day.

ANEK- SUPERFAST sail together providing you high quality transportation services ensuring a convenient, reliable and efficient travel experience.

In the shipping awards “Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards 2007”, Hellenic Seaways was voted “the Best Company of the year 2007 for the Passenger Shipping” and the newly built passenger/vehicle ferry of the company, NISSOS CHIOS, which was entirely built in Greece, was given the award of the “Best Ship for the Year 2007”.

In 2006, the distinction of the “Best Ship of the Year” in the same institution had been given to the also newly built passenger – vehicle ferry of Hellenic Seaways NISSOS MYKONOS, which was awarded with the “Green Star” certificate of environment protection by the Italian classification sociery RINA. The ship has been fully adapted to all the regulations required to ensure the prevention of pollutions from all its operations, including the training of its crew to control all the substances that are damaging to the environment.
In 2007, the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels gave to Hellenic Seaways the award of Tourist Business of 2007, for its determining role in upgrading and further developing the Hellenic coastal navigation and the sea transportation in the wider island area.
